Apparently, TA has a new forum for the entire NE region. While it makes sense for the substate regions like cape cod or berkshires, not jumping on the macro region band wagon. As it is when folks ask about multiple states we often send them to the individual state but now it just gives us one more place to go I guess.

Anyway, not sure who's opinion was asked before making this addition and wondering what other folks think.

I noticed it and think it could be useful since many people are touring multiple states in the region. But I wonder if, at least initially questions will get lost there. If responders have their own state page bookmarked, then they may never even see the New England forum questions.

I didn't see it. I, too, wonder if posts will get lost/ignored.

I just went to look at it, and the only one I could find said it was for New England, North Dakota. A town named New England? I had to look it up:

Here's a link to the New England (states) Forum:

TA probably added it in response to the misplaced threads on the New England, ND Forum (all the threads there seem to be for the New England states, not the town in ND), but I agree that posts are likely to go unanswered.

Hadn't noticed it until you mentioned it.... Suspect many regular TA responders will do the same.... I was under the impression, perhaps now incorrect, that the Road Trips Forum was for folks looking for multi-state travel help and try to check that one occasionally for posts asking about Maine and adjacent area.

Seems to me that more-than-one-state New England travelers were getting pretty good responses by posting in one (or a couple of states) and getting responses from folks who knew those individual states the best. Leads me to think that responses on a New England Forum will lead to fewer, more general responses with, perhaps, less detail than posts on individual state forums where folks know specific areas very well.

If confusion with the ND Forum is the problem, seems that a simple sticky-note or pop-up cautioning visitors to that site to be sure they're where they intend to be could solve the problem.

This may turn out to be one of those cases where the solution turns out to be worse than the original problem.

MOTG, I so agree with you that this new forum is not the solution to the confusion with the New England, ND forum. The ND forum has two stickies informing folks that it is for a town in ND. Folks on the ND forum politely redirect posters to the correct forum(s). I didn't read every post there (not that there are very many!), but I didn't see any unanswered ones. I suspect that the big problem is that when folks put "New England" in the search box, the ND forum comes up. That's where a prominent warning would help.

I also agree that the Road Trips Forum works well for these kinds of posts and often suggest that posters go there as well as to the individual state forums.
