  • Specialties: Odor Free, Spacious Boarding Kennel, Completely Climate Controlled, Fenced Play Yard, Professional Grooming Salon, Obedience Training & Behavior Counseling, Treats Established in 1986. In 1986, I built my original boarding and grooming kennel on my home property. It was built to house my show dogs and a grooming room. Having Lhasa Apsos and Rottweilers, special size and floor coverings were taken into consideration. I was asked by neighbors and my veterinarian to board their pets while they were on vacation. Thus my boarding kennel became open to the public. It started with 12 runs, then an additional 20 runs needed to be built. As business grew I was at the point I was constantly full, so I needed either to build again, or lose customers for lack of availability. In 2006 I became the "small business of the year", by the Chamber of Commerce. I had also received "Best Pet Groomer" 10 times by the Cullman Times. Again I had to build on again. We currently have 3 boarding buildings. I have been an obedience trainer/animal behaviorist since the 70's. We also have employed a veterinarian tech, 3 additional groomers, and 3 other employees to take care and love your pets.

FAQs

Does K9 Resorts have cameras? ›

While there are numerous security cameras around the facility that are accessible at all times by management and staff, we do not have a system in place for others to watch the dogs in our care.

How long does it take for a dog to get used to daycare? ›

There's no way to pinpoint exactly how long it will take your pup to get used to daycare. Some may adapt in a few days, while others may take weeks to months. The best a pet parent can do is to pay attention to signs of distress, be patient, and provide lots of loving care at the end of the day.

Why won't my dog eat after coming home from the kennel? ›

Has your pet come home acting like he hasn't been fed for a week? Rest assured, he most certainly has! Dogs naturally eat and drink less while they are in boarding - something which is generally down to it being a new environment and them feeling less comfortable than they would at home.

Why is my dog drinking so much water after being boarded? ›

Kennel staff most likely monitor water more closely than you do at home refilling waters regularly throughout the day. Dogs drink more when they get home for multiple reasons, they may feel more comfortable there, they may be overly excited, or the car ride home stressed them out.

Who is the owner of K9 resorts? ›

Jason and Steven Parker describe themselves as animal lovers and entrepreneurs. They are also brothers, business partners and co founders of K9 Resorts. K9 Resorts is essentially a luxury hotel for dogs, as well as a daytime pet-care service. The brothers founded the business in 2005 and began franchising in 2011.

Do K9 handlers keep their dogs? ›

Each dog is a member of the handler's family. In almost all cases the dog retires with that family. Only in the most extreme of cases is there an exception to this. If the dog is handled by more than one officer during their career it will normally retire with the last officer it work with.

Should I facetime my dog while on vacation? ›

It's a great way to make face-to-face contact while you're out of town and your dog is with a sitter. Your dog almost certainly recognizes your voice. But sometimes, it's hard to tell whether or not they know what's on a screen.

What age do dogs stop liking daycare? ›

My experience from running my own dog daycare in Canada for many years is that dogs who attend since puppyhood will, at some point (usually between 2-4 years of age), stop enjoying daycare.

Is it stressful for dogs to go to daycare? ›

Even the most well-run dog daycare facilities can be stressful for some dogs, particularly those who are naturally anxious or sensitive. Dogs are social creatures by nature, but they can easily become overstimulated when surrounded by others for an extended period.

Should I feel guilty about leaving my dog in a kennel? ›

Crating a dog when you leave the house, travel or have company over may cause feelings of guilt, but it is the safest place for your dog to be. Dogs are den dwelling animals that will often curl up and go to sleep when they are comfortable in their crate.

Do dogs feel abandoned in a kennel? ›

One of the most pervasive myths is that dogs feel abandoned when they're left at a boarding facility. However, dogs are more adaptable than we often give them credit for. A well-run boarding facility offers not just a place to stay but a new adventure.

Why does my dog drop his food on the floor before he eats it? ›

Some think it goes back to the mammal/wolf instinct of taking food away from the “kill” or to protect their portion from other's stealing it while they are eating. Other owners report that their dogs bring the food out of the bowl away from a hard floor to a softer surface such as carpet or towels.

Is it traumatic for dogs to be boarded? ›

Are dogs traumatized by boarding? Dog boarding can be challenging for your dog, but a dog is rarely traumatized after spending time at a dog boarding kennel.

What is kennel nose? ›

This condition, known as “kennel nose,” is the result of your dog rubbing its nose repeatedly into something until the skin becomes irritated. The skin may also form abrasions that, if agitated enough, can bleed.

Why is my dog peeing everywhere after being boarded? ›

Get back into your usual routine as quickly as possible

Dogs benefit from routine and familiarity since knowing what to expect helps them to feel more secure. In turn, this can eliminate unwanted behaviors when she first comes home, such as overt clinginess, urinating and even scratching or chewing.

What is K9 dog security? ›

K-9s are police dogs that are a play on the word “canine” (which means dog). K-9 security dogs can be used in the public or private sector and assist guards with a variety of functions. For example, k-9s can assist with drug sniffing or bomb sniffing.

Do K9 units take their dogs home? ›

When their shift ends, the K9s go home with their handlers and are a part of the handler's family. Each dog has a different personality and temperament, but they tend to be great at home because we choose dogs that are social. As one might imagine, the bond between an officer and their K9 partner is strong.

Are K9 units friendly? ›

Our dogs may be sociable and friendly, but they are not pets. They are working dogs and look to their handlers for approval to relax and be petted. If you see one of our Canine Unit marked vehicles around town, do not try to touch the vehicle or interact with the police service dog through the window.

What do dogs do when they are boarded? ›

At traditional boarding facilities and dog kennels, pups have their own space, separate from other dogs. Your dog may also have his own dog run, or he'll be taken for walks and play multiple times a day.
